Vacations postponed until who-knows-when. Summer camps canceled. Neighborhood gatherings discouraged or prohibited. Back-to-school still up in the air. What an unprecedented time we’re facing.

At Colorado Yurt Company, we worked through the COVID-19 pandemic shutdowns. We were on the job from mid-March until now. We made face shields, workplace separating curtains, driver safety barriers for transportation fleets and more. We kept our crew working and earning paychecks, focused on helping our community, and continued to build our yurts, tipis and tents.

Now we see the world opening up, although we realize we won’t see “normal” any time soon. This has us thinking of how our outdoor structures could make a summer and autumn at home an adventure. We’ve designed new, affordable outdoor options for the months ahead.

Our first new backyard adventure offering is designed for the kids. It’s our BLT (Backyard Little Tipi). At 9’ diameter, it’s perfect for a few kids to hide out, sleep in or escape in their own backyard. We designed two different styles. The Authentic Sioux Mini Lodge is a kid-sized version of the authentic tipis we’ve made for 44 years, with smoke flaps and the traditional egg-shaped doorway. The Backyard Play Tipi is a bit simpler- with no smoke flaps and an easy-thru arched doorway. Both have break-down poles, which makes the whole package easy to ship.

We wouldn’t want your best friend to feel left out- introducing the Pup Tipi. It’s a simple, three-pole design with an oval doorway. We use the same durable, commercial grade canvas as the BLT and it comes with stakes to secure it to the ground.

Would you like to hear the crickets while you sleep? Do you need a temporary classroom or office? Our Backyard Getaway Tent is an affordable, easy-to-pitch wall tent. With an internal frame, you don’t need to build a platform and ridge pole. It can be pitched on your patio, your deck or in the yard (with optional “footers” for the poles). For shipping ease, the tent comes with couplers- and you provide the tent frame poles, (1” EMT available from local building or electrical supply stores). The tent is the same quality construction as our standard tents- which should give many summers of enjoyment with proper care and storage.

Are you a yurt person? We have a special yurt available at a great price. It’s our 16’ Backyard Yurt, and it comes with basic options (1 door, 2 windows, dome, roof insulation). You can build a platform and have a year-round engineered yurt or purchase our optional ground ring and pitch the yurt on the ground for summer use. At 200 square feet, our 16’ yurt is the perfect size for a guest room, office, play room, craft room, exercise studio or man cave.

Our lead times are un-seasonably-low. We can build any of our structures, including our custom yurts, tipis and tents in all sizes, shipped to you before Labor Day. Give us a call.
